Congratulations, you have uncovered a hidden part of this website! Initially, I had not planned on writing this section, as I am not one to talk much, especially about my self. However, a friend believed its absence might be felt by some, and so here we are.
Hi, my name is Daniel Weinbach and this is my journey...
Here is another confession, I hate being photographed. Thus, on this page, you will find two things I'd rather avoid - talking about and photographing myself. Still, I will do my best not to disappoint.
The world of photography did not start for me in your typical way of a kid always running about with a camera since the age of four. Despite having access to camera gear while growing up, photography never really grabbed my attention. Fast-forward to 2015 — I decided to spice up a trip by trying my hand at creating 360degree panorama images. I had only a fisheye lens at my disposal and zero plans for regular photography, but as the saying goes the appetite came with the meal.
My real dive into the photography scene did not kick off until 2018, though. Along with it came the ponderous "What" and "Why". Interestingly, something I heard nearly a decade ago suddenly made sense.
Sitting among friends, some were smoking, I curiously asked one of them, "What is the deal with smoking for you?" His response was, "It calms me down". "Seriously? How?" The answer was rather interesting, though I did not quite understand it at the time, "It is not the nicotine or the smoke, it is the actual process, when for a brief moment of time nothing exists but you and the cigarette". Looking back, it made sense now. Trying to capture a subject with the best possible light, standing at one spot, sometimes for several hours, taking photo after photo. You become grounded at that moment and place. There is a tangible sensation of time unfolding, visible and palpable. For that brief period, nothing but the subject exists, not even you. So, perhaps that is the best answer to the "Why" question. It is the tranquility that accompanies the sense of standing outside of time!
Beginning with panoramas, encapsulating entire locales in a single moment, I found myself drawn towards narrower perspectives, trying to isolate the subject, to remove the clatter and capture the essence. Recently, I have been striving to uncover and unveil a profound philosophical narrative within my images. This shifts my work from the realm of pure photography into image manipulation, but you know, I already said photography never really grabbed my attention. Ultimately, I am still in pursuit of the "What", and it feels like this quest should never truly end, otherwise there will be no more point in taking out the camera!
I hope you enjoy your stay on this website. Feel free to reach out with questions, suggestions, or critiques! Thank you!
